This book carefully locates Macintyre’s plays within the critical debates around postcolonial and diaspora theories and also within the particular diaspora history of Sri Lanka. Examining “how displacement relates to homeland” and to the socio-politics of the adoptive country, it appropriately keeps in mind specific differences of ethnicity, language and class, and traces the messages in Macintyre’s satirical plays for both Australian and Sri Lankan audiences. It is an important addition to the literary scholarship of both countries. Macintyre’s work deserves to be much better known and this book is a worthy means to achieve this.
