601. DR. T. SUMATHY (a) THAMIZHACHI THANGAPANDIAN:
Will the Minister of FINANCE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Ministry has received a letter from the Tamil Nadu Federation of Powerlooms
Associations urging the Government to reject the recommendations of the Directorate General of Trade
Remedies (DGTR) for levying of anti-dumping duty on Viscose Staple Fibre (VSF) and if so, the details
thereof and the response of the Government thereto;
(b) whether the Government is aware that the removal of the duty had enabled the exports of VSF to grow
from 25.49 million sq. mt. in 2019-20 to 61.3939 million sq. mt. in 2021-22;
(c) if so, whether the Ministry has taken this fact into consideration while taking a decision on anti-dumping duty and if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether the Government is aware that if the aforesaid recommendation is notified, the entire
power loom sector in the country, especially in Tamil Nadu would reportedly face closure and if so, the
details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto; and
(e) the steps taken by the Government to tackle the said issue?
