3993. DR. T. SUMATHY (a) THAMIZHACHITHANGAPANDIAN:
Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to
state:
(a) whether it is a fact that the Government has expressed concern over poor
implementation of the compensatory afforestation scheme especially in terms of
efforts from States/UTs to upload correct information on the portal;
(b) whether a note submitted by the Forest Survey of India to the Ministry of
Environment, Forest and Climate Change in January 2020 indicated that only a
quarter of the data provided by States on plantations was correct, if so, the details
thereof and the reasons therefor;
(c) if so, proportion of correct data provided by State Governments on afforestation taken
up, State-wise particularly in the North East Region;
(d) whether non-forest areas have also been included in the said reports/maps and forest
area has been shown as increased and if so, the details thereof and the reasons
therefor;
(e) the details of public funds spent on compensatory afforestation, year-wise during the
last three years and the current year; and
(f) whether the Government is taking any steps to ensure transparency in compensatory
afforestation, if so details thereof?
