QUESTION HOUR

DR. T. SUMATHY (A) THAMIZHACHI THANGAPANDIAN:

Sir, I would like to tell the hon. Minister, through you, that recently the Ministry has proposed to bring important sites of worship, nearly 7,000 temples in Tamil Nadu, under the Centrally Protected areas like the monuments or the architecture. Our Party President, Mr. M.K. Stalin, has strongly protested against it saying that it would definitely affect the sentiments of the people of Tamil Nadu because each State has its own cultural nuances attached with the temples and the locales of the temples. I understand that archaeology, everything is important, but a temple is a
living organism, and it is not only a place of worship. So, I would like the Minister to understand the sentiments of Tamil Nadu people; and request him to just think over it and take back this announcement.
