Title : Recruiting faculty members from SC/ST/OBC communities under Mission Mode
Caste-based discrimination against people from marginalised caste backgrounds is highly concerning. Our educational institutions are witnessing a rise in such instances. In this regard, in August, the Ministry of Education asked institutions such as IITs, Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and central universities to fill faculty positions by actively recruiting faculty members from SC/ST/OBC communities under the “Mission Mode” by September 2022. The ministry also sought a monthly report
on the actions taken by these institutions to fill the vacant positions. Some IITs brought out notices for the special recruitment drive. But the process is not taking place as actively as it should be. I request the Union Government to take active measures to ensure a speedy recruitment drive in the above-mentioned institutions. The monthly reports should be made publicly available in order to ensure transparency and accountability in the process. A special high-level committee needs to be set up to ensure that the recruitment drive is carried out in accordance with the constitutional principles of reservation.
